How To Get A Roustabout Job
Update your resume: Include any relevant experience or skills related to manual labor, maintenance, crane work or the oil and gas industry. Research companies: Look for oil and gas companies, offshore service providers or especially drilling contractors that hire roustabouts in your country. Visit company websites: Check the "Careers" or "Jobs" section of these companies' websites for any open positions. Use online job boards: Utilize popular job search websites, such as Indeed, LinkedIn, or specialized oil and gas job portals, such as CHEwells.com to search for roustabout positions. Network: Reach out to find contacts in the oil and gas industry, join professional groups, or attend job fairs to increase your chances of finding job opportunities. Apply: Submit your updated resume and a tailored cover letter for each job application. Highlight your relevant skills, physical fitness, willingness to work in challenging conditions and be available at very short notice. If someone else doesn't turn up, they may phone you. Follow up: If you haven't heard back within a reasonable time, reach out to the company to inquire about the status of your application. Repeat this several times with a selection of companies. Not too frequently though. Stay persistent: Keep searching, applying, and networking until you secure a roustabout position. Get your search organized. On paper, your phone or computer save all information on which companies you have applied to and when. If you get a recruiter name or email address, write it down and use that in all future messages. Remember to stay organized, stay positive, and be prepared for interviews, which may be over the phone. Good luck in your job search! |
