Toyota has been accused of lagging behind it's competitors in the Electric Vehicle (EV) market. They favoured hybrid power in their cars. It's not surprising that they have also been developing EV engines. One of the main concerns with current battery technology and one of the main reasons Toyota prefer hybrid vehicles is the time it takes to recharge an EV battery. Seems like they are doing some catching up with the announcement of a future battery that will charge in less than 10 minutes.
