Panic has set in. The great rush to stop burning fossil fuels has begun. But are we going at the right way? I think history will show that it would have been better to get carbon capture developed on a global scale. Let's get more control over our atmosphere.

Natural Disaster Making It Worse

We need control, not only because of our activity, but what if as has happened in the Earth's history we entered a phase of increased volcanic activity for example? Perhaps other natural disasters occur that add to the carbon problem. But, mainly to undo the harm to our environment we have cause in the last couple of hundred years. With carbon capture facilities fully developed around the world, the ability to mitigate these problems somewhat is available.

Carbon capture machines are possible. Gathering carbon out of the air and burying it deep underground.

Causing New Environmental Problems

We can then take more time to develop alternative power sources, making sure that we are not causing further problems. More time to avoid new technologies that could damage the environment in other ways. For example, right now, companies are planning to dredge the deep sea to find metals and minerals required for electric vehicle batteries, destroying who knows what ecosystems down there. We still haven't worked out what to do with the millions of wind turbine blades when they come to the end of their lives. All kinds of new problems are being created because of the rush to end the burning of fossil fuels.

No Money In Carbon Capture

Trouble is that while there is some money in developing new clean ways to generate electricity, there is no money in carbon capture. In our societies, sometimes we do things right, sometimes wrong and usually somewhere in between, but we always do what makes financial sense.

The big picture here is that we could be in way more trouble than we realise. There could be a monumental shift in the weather with just a tiny bit more of a temperature rise. It might not be just a bit hotter and wetter, it could be an off the scale disaster that effects millions of people and wildlife.

Pour oil down them volcanoes, see what kind of firework we get.

World has gone mad, but I keep on working getting more and more of that oil we all need. Bring it on.

We might loose a species or ten.

I agree that we need to take time to be more careful. I think we should make the timescales longer. OK, so it will get a bit hotter in one place, a bit wetter in another, windier elsewhere and so on. It will gradually get better as we improve. Some people have gone nuts with all this!

Volcanoes bhah, little fishies at the bottom of the sea, double bhah

Sure, we will wreck stuff on the journey away from oil, but it's got to be done.

We will find the right way in the end.
  • Hammy (Feb 1, 2024)
I'm not going to worry about volcanoes.

This is the way it has always been. We do stuff and if it doesn't work right, we keep doing it till it does or go and do something else.
  • Qasim (Feb 1, 2024)
The best carbon capture method is to simply leave the trees to grow massive.
  • Amanda Duarte (Jan 31, 2024)
Carbon capture is a good idea as a part of the overall solution. I think we need to do everything we can.

I'll worry about volcanoes when they become a problem. What next asteroid strikes? Forget about it.

People don't work for nothing and stuff costs money you know.
